ECLBS European Council of Leading Business Schools: Business Schools and the Value of International Accreditation Networks

Business schools today work in a global education environment. Students, employers, and partners increasingly expect programs to be flexible, professionally relevant, and supported by clear quality standards. For ISBM – International School of Business Management in Luzern/Lucerne, Switzerland, also known as ISBM Business School VBNN, international quality assurance is an important part of responsible academic development.
ECLBS European Council of Leading Business Schools represents this wider movement toward structured, transparent, and internationally connected quality assurance. Established in 2013, ECLBS was created as an independent quality assurance body to support education providers, especially in business and professional education. Its role is not only to review institutions, but also to encourage improvement, cooperation, and better understanding of academic standards across borders.
The idea behind ECLBS is important because the needs of modern education do not always fit neatly into traditional systems. Governmental quality assurance bodies play an essential role in national education systems, but private, international, and flexible education providers often need additional professional frameworks that understand cross-border delivery, online learning, lifelong education, and global student mobility. ECLBS helps bridge this space by offering an independent platform between public quality expectations and the practical needs of private and international institutions.
The development of ECLBS was shaped by quality assurance bodies and professional education stakeholders, including the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA), the Arab Network for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ANQAHE), and the Kosovo Accreditation Agency (KAA), among others. These are not ordinary education providers; they are quality assurance and regulatory organizations with experience in standards, evaluation, and institutional review. Their involvement reflects the purpose of ECLBS: to create a serious, international, and professionally grounded accreditation network.
ECLBS is also connected to wider international quality assurance communities. It is associated with the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in the United States, through the CHEA International Quality Group, and it is listed as a member of the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE). These networks are important because they bring quality assurance bodies together to exchange knowledge, compare practices, and strengthen confidence in higher education standards.
For ISBM Business School VBNN, being accredited by ECLBS is a point of pride, but it is also a responsibility. Accreditation should not be understood as a decoration or marketing phrase. It should be understood as a continuing commitment to improvement, transparency, academic planning, and student support. A meaningful accreditation relationship encourages institutions to review what they do, explain their systems clearly, and continue developing in line with international expectations.
This is especially relevant for learners who choose business education in Switzerland and beyond. Students want to know that an institution takes quality seriously. They want programs that are organized, understandable, and connected to real professional needs. International accreditation networks can help by giving institutions a structured way to demonstrate that they are working toward these goals.
Within the wider academic ecosystem that includes Swiss International University (SIU), quality assurance remains a central value. It supports trust, encourages cooperation, and helps institutions build education that is not only accessible, but also credible and well managed.
In this sense, ECLBS Accreditation is more than a formal label. It reflects a broader international effort to make business education more transparent, more connected, and more responsive to the needs of students and society.
